Freshman Exploratory
How to Make a Great First Impression!
The Secret is to be Prepared! It starts with your Freshman Exploratories. Please take time to read the Freshman Requirements (pdf) for the upcoming exploratories and put your best foot or boot forward.
How It Works
- Freshmen receive an Interim Report Card showing all exploratory grades and their academic grades for Term 1 in all courses.
- From all the shops they have explored, freshmen decide on a 1st, 2nd , and 3rd choice program for their permanent placement.
- A quality point average (QPA) is computed for each of their three career program choices, using the following weights and values:
- All students who selected a shop are rank-ordered, by QPA, and shop spaces are then filled according to their student capacities. Students’ names appear on the lists of all three shops they selected.
- Second- and third-choice students with higher QPA’s for a shop will get into the shop before first choice students with lower QPA’s.
- Students who do not get their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice shop(s) are automatically placed on waiting lists for those shops. These are the only students with official status on the waiting lists at this time. Waiting lists are rank-ordered by QPA.
- As spaces become available in shops, the spaces are offered to the next students on the waiting lists. Waiting lists remain throughout the sophomore year or until they are exhausted.
