Pre-Engineering - Project Lead The Way

Project Lead the Way

PLTW (Application required) is a hands-on, project-based approach to learning that introduces students to the scope, rigors, and discipline of engineering prior to entering college. Students who demonstrate an interest in and the potential for an engineering career may be selected to participate in this program as an extension of their technical major.

Principles of EngineeringGrades 10, 11

This course helps students understand the field of engineering/engineering technology. Exploring various technology systems and manufacturing processes help students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technology in an engineering problem solving process to benefit people. The course also includes concerns about social and political consequences of technological change.

Introduction to Engineering DesignGrades 9, 10, 11

Introduction to Engineering Design is a course that develops students problem solving skills, with emphasis on the development of three-dimensional solid models. Students will work from sketching simple geometric shapes to applying a solid modeling computer software package. They will learn a problem solving design process and how it is used in industry to manufacture a product. The Computer-Aided Design System (CAD) will also be used to analyze and evaluate the product design. Techniques learned, and equipment used, are state-of-the-art and are currently being used by engineers throughout the United States.

Digital ElectronicsGrade 11

Digital Electronics is a course in applied digital logic. The use of digital circuits is increasing so rapidly that its hard to imagine limits. You will be introduced to the digital circuits found in video games, watches, calculators, and thousands of other devices. You will study the application of digital logic and how digital devices are used to control automated equipment. You will use the industry standard electronic design software to build circuits and to export designs to a printed circuit auto routing program that generates printed circuit boards, using chips and other components.

Civil Engineering and ArchitechtureGrade 12

This course provides an overview of the fields of Civil Engineering and Architecture, while emphasizing the interrelationship and dependence of both fields on each other. Students use state of the art software to solve real world problems and communicate solutions to hands-on projects and activites. This course covers topics such as: The Roles of Civil Engineers and Architects, Project Planning, Site Planning, Building Design, Project Documentation and Presentation.

Engineering Design and DevelopmentGrade 12

This capstone course for PLTW Teams of students, guided by community mentors, work together to reasearch, design, and construct solutions to engineering problems.
