Summer Reading Requirement, Summer 2007
The English Department has changed the summer reading requirement, effective this summer.
Students must each read two assigned books, and will be tested on these books at the start of the school year. Students should be prepared for this test immediately on return to school in August.
The books ...
Almost all students must read books from the "MOST ENGLISH CLASSES" list in the chart below. You may only choose from the other lists if you are in reading improvement (Mrs. Seymour and Mr. Farley) or AP, courses, respectively. Questions about which course you are in should be directed to the guidance department, (508) 485-9430 ext. 430.
Students in Advanced Placement Senior English Classes will submit to assessments that are appropriate for those courses. Questions about the Advanced Placement English requirements should be directed to Mr. Coffey.

The tests ...
... will consist of multiple-choice and open response questions testing students' knowledge of each book's characters, plot, setting, and tone, and critical thinking about each book's themes.
Students will not be permitted to use notes, the books, or any other resources during these tests. The tests are not designed to be especially difficult, but are meant to give students an opportunity to show their efforts on summer reading and their general literature and writing abilities.
Students are encouraged to take notes while they read, even though they may not use the notes while taking the tests. Some English teachers will award extra credit to students who show their comprehensive notes about the book.
